Isleton Officer Accused Of Having Sex In Patrol Car

ISLETON (CBS13) - It was on their dime, the taxpayers of Isleton, that a police officer is accused of having sex with two women in his city-issued patrol car while on duty.

The alleged sexual encounters began in December, a source tells CBS13. Police Chief Steve Adams learned about the investigation in February.

One of the women is a dispatcher in another county, but the city manager at the time allegedly told the chief that the small four-officer police department couldn't afford to lose anyone.

The investigation hit more roadblocks when the city manager was fired, then again Thursday with the police chief put on paid leave.

The current interim city manager, who just started, didn't know about the investigation.

"I really, really don't believe it. I mean, I may be wrong but the three guys that are there, I'd take a bullet for them," said Daniel Hinrich. "They're great guys."

The source says that type of attitude among city leaders is the reason why the officer accused of having sex, instead of protecting the community, remains on the force.

Hinrichs also told CBS13 that although he'd just heard about these allegations, he would launch his own investigation but didnt' say whether the officer would stay on duty.

For the time being, all Isleton officers are off duty. After the department was disbanded Wednesday and reinstated Thursday morning, Hinrichs told officers not to report to work Thursday night. That follows an officer shooting a pit bull on Thursday morning.

Officers, it seems, are concerned about lacking the proper certification to be on duty and what that will mean now that an investigation into the dog shooting will begin.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department has agreed to respond to emergency calls coming from the city.
