Ask any PGA golfer and they’ll tell you the TPC at Sawgrass is one of the more daunting courses they face all year. Yet, the Northern California contingent of Spencer Levin, Ricky Barnes and Nick Watney all made the cut and acquitted themselves nicely this weekend at the Players Championship.
Levin played particularly well, shooting a 69 on the final day, despite a double bogey on the 18th hole. Watney and Barnes played themselves out of contention on the weekend but it was still a good showing considering the likes of Rory McIlroy, Hunter Mahan and defending champion K.J. Choi didn’t even make the cut.
On another note, I played Ancil Hoffman Golf Course this morning and It’s in beautiful shape with the exception of the 13th green which still seems to be struggling.
The course is primed and ready for the annual Memorial Amateur Championship on Memorial weekend. If you have a chance, come out and walk the course with some of the most accomplished amateur golfers in the world. It’s really quite a treat.
