Suspect In 1996 Murder Of Sacramento Teen Now In Custody

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A man accused of killing a 13-year-old girl 16 years ago is finally back in Sacramento to face murder charges.

Earlier this year in March, Sacramento homicide detectives served an arrest warrant on Terry Short Jr. in Nevada, where he was incarcerated for an unrelated crime.

Short is the suspect in the 1996 rape and murder of Jessica Sanchez in south Sacramento.

Sanchez was found dead in Florin Creek Park. She had been raped and shot.

The investigation into her death came up dry until late last year.

Investigators say DNA evidence found at the scene led to Short, who has been serving 10 years to life in a Nevada jail on drug charges.

Short is now being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail.

He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
