Former 'Hughleys' Star Faces Murder Charges In Stockton

STOCKTON (CBS13) - In the 1990s he was a child star on the sitcom "The Hughleys."

Now 23-year-old Dorjan "DJ" Daniels, aspiring rapper, has a major rap sheet as he sits in the San Joaquin County Jail facing murder charges.

John Joseph Lewis, 26, was stabbed repeatedly during a fight that broke out in Chivitas Restaurant on the waterfront in Stockton.

Police say Daniels, considered a known gang member, along with two other men, attacked Lewis and others.

Investigators say the brawl spilled out into the parking lot where Lewis was stabbed again. The wounds were fatal. Another woman was stabbed but survived.

Witnesses led police to the one-time star.

Daniels was not only known for appearances on "The Hughleys" but other big and small screen roles with Disney and even with Urkel on "Family Matters."

His last reported acting job was on "Cold Case" in 2006.

And now his latest alleged role is not pretend.

"I think it's ridiculous," said resident Amanda Wilder.

Wilder, with her dog named Felony, says this part of Stockton may have all the beauty and amenities of an inviting waterfront, but she and other residents say shootings and stabbings are now becoming more commonplace.

"People nowadays are too quick to jump to using weapons," said Wilder.

"I don't know what they're thinking. Knives, guns, clubs, it's senseless," said resident Steve Rogers.

And now this alleged senseless act by a former child actor and two alleged gang members could land all three behind bars for a long time.
