Morning-Long Standoff Ends Without Finding Suspect

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A morning-long standoff in which Sacramento Police descended on a neighborhood where they believed a murder suspect may have been holed up ended just before noon without an arrest.

Police were first called early Tuesday morning from a person requesting a welfare check on a family member.

When officers arrived, they found a body behind a hardware store on Del Paso Boulevard near El Camino Avenue.

Police say it looks like the body had been dumped behind the store.

A witness told police they saw a man running from the scene. Police believe that person went into a home on El Camino Avenue.

Police quickly surrounded the home and began trying to communicate with the person inside. After nearly an hour, a man and a woman came out of the home and were taken into custody. It's unclear if the couple were arrested.

The search area was then expanded with officers concentrating on a multi-unit complex just behind the hardware store.

SWAT officers began communicating with people inside a specific unit. Just after 9:00 a.m. a man and a woman exited the complex with their hands up and were also taken into custody.

Then shortly before noon, officers entered the unit where they believed a man with the street name of "Heavy" was hiding, but found nothing.

The murder is still being investigated.
