Cal State Trustees OK 10% Pay Hikes For 3 Leaders

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The trustees of California State University have approved 10 and 9 percent salary increases for three new campus presidents.

The board's action Tuesday marks the first under its controversial executive compensation policy adopted in May after a firestorm of criticism over presidential pay during a period of drastic belt-tightening caused by state funding cuts.

The board set a raise cap of 10 percent, but stipulated that the amount of the raise must be paid for by campus foundations.

The board approved a $324,500 salary for Diane Harrison at CSU Northridge, $319,000 for Tomas Morales at CSU San Bernardino, and $325,000 for Leslie Wong at San Francisco State. All receive a $1,000 monthly car allowance.

Harrison receives free campus housing. Morales and Wong each receive a $60,000 annual housing allowance.
