Suspected Modesto Burglar Fatally Shot By Homeowner
MODESTO (CBS13) - A Modesto man shot and killed a burglary suspect who was trying to break into his home Tuesday night, according to police.
At around 5 p.m. on Tuesday the homeowner discovered the 21-year-old suspect trying to break into his McClure Road home through a back window. The homeowner armed himself with a handgun and shot the suspect, whose name wasn't immediately released.
The suspect then fled on foot, jumping over several fences before collapsing in front of a residence in the 300 block of Yuba Ridge Lane. He was taken to the hospital but died there.
Investigators think the home was targeted because it had marijuana growing inside. When investigators entered the home to process the crime scene, they located a marijuana grow with approximately 100 plants inside two bedrooms.
It's unknown if the homeowner will face any criminal charges.
