Woman Dies After Getting Hit By CHP Motorcycle In Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A 43-year-old Hayward woman has died after getting hit by a California Highway Patrol motorcycle.

Officials say the woman was hit as she ran across a street in West Oakland around 10 p.m. Friday.

CHP spokeswoman Sgt. Diana McDermott said she did not know if the woman was in crosswalk at the time she was hit.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. The officer, who was thrown from his motorcycle, was hospitalized with moderate injuries. McDermott says the officer has been with the department for at least 23 years.

The name of the woman has not been released. Oakland police and the CHP are investigating.
