Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Arrested On Suspicion Of DUI

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – An off-duty Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy was arrested Sunday on suspicion of driving under the influence in the Fair Oaks area.

Deputy Chuck Pfau, 41, has been with the department for 17 years.

Pfau was arrested after he hit another car. The driver of that car, Mahnaz Azim, 63, says Pfau tried to drive away after the crash but had a flat tire.

"He was trying to go and the people that were there said 'Look, he was trying to go before the police gets here. He must be drunk or had a drug or something,'" Azim said.

"I didn't know if he was trying to move or not or to leave," a witness said.

The collision occurred on Fair Oaks Boulevard at Plumeria Avenue at 4:22 p.m.

A 2007 Honda CRV drive by Azim slowed preparing to make a left turn onto Plumeria Avenue when Pfau, driving a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup, attempted to cross over the double yellow lines and pass the CRV on its left side but hit the CRV as Azim was making the left turn, according to the CHP.

Pfau was arrested at the scene for suspicion of DUI and booked into the Sacramento County Jail. He was also placed on paid administrative leave.

No one was seriously injured in the accident.

"I just have a little bit [of pain] in my neck and my hand," Azim said. "If my car was small, I'm sure I'd be dead."
