Sports Blog: Season Slipping Away

One of the best ways to take advantage of the hot summer weather in the river city is to cross the golden Tower Bridge to West Sacramento and take in America's pastime. Nothing says Sacramento like a summer evening watching great baseball as a cool delta breeze wafts over the landscape.

I'm talking, of course, about the Sacramento River Cats, a local professional team that loves being here, appreciates the fans and, according to Forbes Magazine, is the best run minor league baseball club in the nation.

All good reasons to go to the game Saturday, but I give another. In years past, Cat fans have been treated to some of the best players in the game. I've had the pleasure of seeing up close, the likes of Barry Zito, Bobby Crosby, Mark Ellis, Jose Ortiz and many others.

I'm not about to let this season slip away without taking in the River Cats one more time in this final eight game home stand. With the best record in the PCL and a world of talent on the field, I'm ready to settle into my seat with a cold one and soak up the experience.
