Hundreds Turn Out For Free Dental Care At Cal Expo

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Hundreds of people have turned out at Cal Expo for free dental care.

People camped out overnight to take part in the free dental clinic set up by CDA Cares. Dentists and other health professionals and volunteers started seeing patients at 6 Friday morning.

It's estimated that more than 1,000 patients will be treated during the two-day clinic.

Many types of dental services will be provided without charge at the clinic, including fillings, cleanings, extractions and general oral health care instructions.

The California Dental Association says the need for dental care skyrocketed after 2009 state budget cuts eliminated most adult Denti-Cal benefits and school-based preventive care for low-income children.
