Sacramento Mountain Lions, UFL Season Delayed

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The United Football League has pushed back the start of its fourth season by a week.

The Virginia Destroyers now visit the Las Vegas Locomotives on Sept. 26. The Omaha Nighthawks open on the road against the Sacramento Mountain Lions on Sept. 28.

Each team is scheduled to play eight games, all televised by CBS Sports Network.

Spokesman Larry Weisman said Thursday the UFL needed more time to prepare for the season. He declined to comment on an Omaha World-Herald report that the delay stems from difficulty in finalizing workers' compensation insurance for players.

The Omaha team also has not finalized a lease at TD Ameritrade Park as of Wednesday.

The four-team UFL is made up mostly of free agents hoping to get signed by an NFL team.
