Modesto Teen Arrested For Threatening To Kill Father

MODESTO (CBS13) - A 16-year-old boy was arrested Monday for attempted murder after threatening to kill his father and take his own life, according to Modesto police.

This incident began about 1:30 a.m. when police officers were called to a residence in the 2400 block of Southfork Lane, for the report of a family dispute.

Responding officers were informed a 16-year-old boy who was inside the home, had armed himself with a shotgun and had threatened to shoot his father. The father was able to disarm the teen prior to officers arriving.

Officers learned the teen had been distraught and has a history of substance abuse. The teen had been planning to kill his father and had taken steps to gather the items he needed to complete the task, police said.

Sometime in the early morning, the teen reportedly retrieved his father's shotgun and loaded it with a shotgun round he had previously stolen.

As the teen waited in the living room, he was confronted by his mother, who was awakened by the noise he made. The teen's mother screamed when she saw her son with the shotgun, which woke up the teen's father.

The father then exited his bedroom and as he walked into the living room, the teen pointed the shotgun at his father and threatened to kill him, police said. The father was able to talk his son into not firing the gun and then disarmed his son and restrained him until the police arrived.

Police arrested the teen for attempted murder and making terrorist threats. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall.
