Man Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash On Fulton Avenue In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A man died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver and then being run over by a second vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident happened around 8:45 p.m. Thursday night at Fulton Avenue and Hurley Way.

Officers say a 60-year-old man who lived in the area was hit by an unknown vehicle that left the seen and the man lying in the roadway. The Sacramento County Coroner's website identified the man as Phillip Dale Jensen.

Robert Olivares walks his daughter to the bus stop every morning just yards from where the accident happened.

"To me that's heartless if you don't stop, especially if you knew you hit the person," he said. "It makes me worry more when I walk down this street, for sure. These cars speed up and down this road like it's nothing."

The man was then run over by a taxi cab. Officers say the taxi driver was making a U-turn and did not see the body. The taxi driver, Gholamreza Janani, was questioned and released.

Jensen was taken to UC Davis Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The CHP is asking for the public's help with any information about this crash. As of now, investigators do not have any information about the suspect nor the vehicle involved.

"It's a serious crime," Sgt. Jim Frost. "These cases stay open for up to 20 years. We don't ever get rid of the physical evidence. We keep actively investigating as long as we can."

Anyone with information is asked to call the North Sacramento CHP office at (916) 338-6710.
