BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The relocation of an NBA Development League team from the North Dakota capital of Bismarck to the California city of Santa Cruz is official.
D-League officials on Wednesday announced the move that has been in the works for months. The Dakota Wizards will be renamed the Santa Cruz Warriors and will play in an arena under construction.
The Wizards played 17 seasons in Bismarck, winning four championships in three different leagues. The team joined the D-League beginning with the 2006-07 season and won the league title that year.
The NBA’s Golden State Warriors bought the Wizards last year. Golden State is based about 70 miles north of Santa Cruz in Oakland, Calif.
