Stockton Mother, Children Attacked At Home By Man With Screwdriver

STOCKTON (CBS13) - A mother and her children were attacked in their Stockton home by a man wielding a screwdriver.

To call this situation frightening for the family is an understatement. The woman's husband says the robber is making it hard for the family to feel safe in their own home.

"I can't even sleep last night. I swear to God, I can't even sleep," said Lazaro Mendoza.

Mendoza wasn't home when, he says, a man armed with a screwdriver attacked his wife in front of their two children.

"He grabbed her like that and pushed her off into the wall," Mendoza said, describing the assault. "So she was laying off there and my son started crying because he was seeing his mommy already laying on the floor."

Mendoza's wife, who doesn't speak English, was taking out the trash when the man confronted her. He says the attacker forced his way in into the home, not only attacking his wife, but threatening to kill her and the kids if they didn't listen.

"When I came home they, she couldn't even talk. They couldn't even talk," said Mendoza.

The man demanded money and grabbed what little cash was in the woman's wallet and took off.

"I'm not safe and my family's not safe," said Mendoza. "I don't have nowhere to go."

Despite being attacked and robbed, they were left terrified but alive.

"What matters is that she's OK and my kids OK," said Mendoza.

Detectives are still looking for the attacker.

As for the family, they want to move out of Stockton, but say they can't afford to.
