STOCKTON (CBS13) – A mother is dead after a shooter fires two dozen rounds into her car.
She had just returned from a date with her husband and another couple, and she wasn’t the only target.
It happened in Stockton off Mist Trail Drive in a normally quiet neighborhood.
“Going out on a night on a Saturday with her husband, with two friends, did she deserve to die,” asks a neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous.
The answer is obvious, but still, friends say a 27-year-old mother is dead after a shooting in Stockton’s clean-cut Weston Ranch community.
“It’s very scary. I can’t even let my kids go to the park and play,” said the neighbor.
Police say they received a call that someone opened fire on an occupied car Saturday night.
“All these kids are the nicest kids you want to know, trust me,” said the neighbor.
The neighbor said his daughter is one of the victims in the car. Now in the hospital, he says she had been on a double date last night with another couple. When they pulled up to drop her off, someone came up and started shooting.
“Shot 20 to 25 times in the car,” said the neighbor.
He says his daughter’s friend was hit. With bullet wounds, she sped off to a nearby park, where they would call for help. The woman passed away Sunday morning.
“A life lost unnecessarily,” said the neighbor.
While his daughter is recovering, her boyfriend, who was also struck, is now fighting to survive at UC Davis Medical Center, while police try to figure out why.
“At this time, we have no motive,” said Officer Joe Silva.
Neighbors reported seeing a light colored SUV speeding away from the area.
This is the city’s second homicide this weekend.
A 38-year-old Hispanic man was shot in the parking lot of a McDonald’s on North Wilson Way Saturday afternoon.
Police found a vehicle possibly involved but no suspects were found.
