Search Scaled Back For Hiker Missing In Sierra

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Authorities are scaling back the search for a Southern California man missing in the Sierra Nevada.

Rescue teams have been looking for Larry Conn, a 53-year-old Pacific Palisades man, since last week after he left on what was supposed to be a three-day backpacking trip in Inyo National Forest.

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks spokeswoman Dana Dierkes says teams on the ground and helicopters have been searching for Conn near Taboose Pass, but no clues to his whereabouts have been found.

Ground crews were being pulled from the efforts to find Conn, but Dierkes says a helicopter search would continue Wednesday.

Scaling back the search for Conn comes after Fresno County teams on Monday rescued Matthew Hanson, a 52-year-old Visalia man, who was also hiking in the Sierra.
