Taxi Dave Drawing A Crowd To His 'Black And Yellow Cab'

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A local cab driver has hit it big with a viral video and now a national TV appearance.

It might just turn into more than 15 minutes of fame for "Taxi Dave.". This all started when the taxi driver working the streets of Sacramento knew he needed a "shtick" as they say to get more customers.

You can hear him before you see him - "Taxi Dave" cruisin' in his black and yellow cab.

"Yeah, uh-huh, you know who I am. I'm Taxi Dave, Taxi Dave in my black and yellow, black and yellow cab."

That's how it all began. A YouTube clip featuring Dave Rivera - a Sacramento taxi driver who can't sing and can't rhyme but can draw a crowd because of what he does behind the wheel:

There's no napping in the backseat with Taxi Dave belting out the tunes. He calls himself a natural DJ.

"I get a feel for people and their mood and what they're into and I can pull the right song and they start screaming having a good time," he told CBS13 during a ride-along on Tuesday.

Dave's good time making the video clip turned into a great opportunity when Comedy Central's Tosh.o saw it.

"I got the phone call from the producers of the show and they invited me to be on the show for what's called a web redemption," he said.

We were there as Dave got his first look at that web redemption episode Tuesday night. Tosh.o laughed with him - at him - and his customers loved it.

"It was hilarious," one said.

And Dave took it all in stride.

"That's what I'm all about is comedy, having a good time, but providing a clean and safe ride for my customers," he said.

It's a customer list growing by the day.

And that's music to Taxi Dave's ears.
