ESPARTO (CBS13) – A local high school is mourning the loss of an athlete who died after working out on campus.
Esparto High School soccer player, 17-year old Marcos Torres, was working out in the school’s weight room on Tuesday when a coach and two students found Torres unconscious.
Doctors say he had a brain aneurysm. He was taken off life support on Wednesday.
Students on campus and Torres’ family are struggling with his sudden death.
“Right now, it’s not very good. I mean, they’re very sad. They can’t believe this happened,” said Marcos’ cousin, Juan Torres.
A memorial stands outside of the high school. Candles are still burning, near letters saying goodbye and pictures of the teen.
The family is planning a funeral some time next week.
The high school plans on retiring his jersey.
