New Elk Grove Walmart Adds Hundreds Of Jobs

ELK GROVE (CBS13) - A brand new Walmart has opened up in Elk Grove and has created hundreds of jobs in the area.

"With Walmart opening up, it means other businesses are going to open up," said customer Amy Wilkerson.

It's an omen that things are looking up. Just ask Elk Grove resident Petri Hawkins-Byrd, the bailiff on Judge Judy.

"This is a good sign the economy has bounced back. We're doing really well. You can always tell by Walmart whether or not the economy is doing well," he said.

The Bruceville Road location had dozens of people lined up early to check out the new 148,000-square-foot store.

"I just work right across the street. So at least if I need some lunch I can walk across the street," said Wilkerson.

With this Walmart going up, 265 new jobs were brought to the area.

"I might go back to work, I'm retired," customer Cecil McKinzie said. "It's just good to see for the economy, for people to have work."

Store manager Jorge Sabido agrees it's a great boost for the community.

"I live in the community as well and have a good portion of associates who live near this community. Now, they have an opportunity to work in there community, as well. This is a fantastic thing," said Sabido.

Four thousand dollars in grants were donated by three different organizations to this new Walmart.

This is now the third Walmart in Elk Grove.
