Northern California Band Turning To Kickstarter To Fund Next Album

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The Chris Gardner band has made a name for themselves in Northern California. Now they're reaching out to their fans to be a part of their next album.

The band is going outside of the box with their next album.

"It allows our fans and the people that really love and support us to be a part of this with us," said Gardner.

The band has turned to Kickstarter.com, a website designed for musicians, artists, designers, anyone who is looking for help raising money and meets Kickstarter's criteria.

"It's a neat program because if you don't hit your goal all the money goes back to everybody.

The band set their goal at $15,000 after deciding the traditional way of going about a record label just wasn't for them.

"They have full creative rights. They tell you when you can play, so we knew we didn't want to go that route," said Gardner.

So now, the support keeps growing

"We have seven days left and were at $10,000," he said.

They'll be up on Kickstarter through next week.

"We actually titled it be our record label," he said.

The guys relying heavily on the fans.

"We do 170 shows a year. We love to perform," said he said.

Gardner is hoping their enthusiasm will get them to their goal.

"Without them we couldn't play. We couldn't make a living, we couldn't do what we love to do," he said.

I asked the band for plan b if this venture falls short, but it's not even on their radar.

"We're not going to need to. I have faith that this is going to work," he said.

You can pull them up on Kickstarter if you want to help them reach their goal.
