Police: Modesto Teen Helped Save 8-Year-Old From Attempted Kidnapping

MODESTO (CBS13) - A Modesto 13-year-old girl is being credited with saving an 8-year-old boy from a kidnapping attempt Sunday.

Police say the teenager's mother spotted 32-year-old John Jenkins attempt to open her neighbor's front door in the 1800 block of Sunrise Avenue. So she began yelling at him and questioned what he was doing. She then went inside to call police.

The teen continued to keep an eye on Jenkins, police say, and saw him grab her 8-year-old neighbor and try to carry him from his front yard. The 13-year-old ran over, pulled the boy from his grasp, and both were able to get away.

The teen's mother helped lead police to the suspect. Jenkins -- a registered sex offender – was arrested for kidnapping and annoying or molesting a child.
