Wife Accused Of Shooting Husband Now In Jury's Hands

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A jury now has the case of a local woman accused of shooting and killing her husband.

Shajia Ayobi, 46, originally told police she and her husband were victims of a carjacking and at one point said the CIA killed her husband of many years, Ghulam.

"It's not a difficult case, she shot her husband in cold blood," prosecutor Kevin Greene said. "She thought it, she planned it, she executed it."

Thursday's closing arguments at one point pushed the defendant's sister out of the courtroom in tears.

Meanwhile, her defense didn't spend time denying her involvement, instead pointing to issues the Afghanistan native had with stress, claiming her husband was a threatening bully.

"Because she was traumatized, because she suffered PTSD, because she suffered from complex trauma, because her husband was an erratic brute," said attorney David Kmeto.

He also insisted Ayobi suffered from a psychological problem that could make her feel threatened when she wasn't.

"Mr. Green might not have thought that Ghulam Ayobi was a threat the night that he got killed, but Shajia did."

Showing the bloody crime scene, prosecutors detracted from her so-called mental illness.

"It's unfortunate that she did, but now she is a murderer," Greene said.
