Auburn fire personnel lifted the car off 54-year-old Bret Montague and he was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. Montague later died from his injuries Tuesday evening.

The two people seated with him -- his wife and a male friend -- were also transported to the same hospital. Both would be released later that same day.

Employees of the restaurant are still shaken and are meeting with a chaplain Friday to help them cope.

"We're planning to do one night in the community, the old town, to put some flowers or candles for the memory," owner Maritza Cordero.

Montague's family says he worked in the high tech industry in Silicon Valley and was a husband, father and grandfather. He recently relocated to Auburn from Redwood City.

Auburn police have not released the names of Montague's wife and friend or the driver.

Police still don't know why the driver lost control. She has not been charged.
