Man Running 24 Hours To Benefit Lincoln Schools

For the third year in a row, Tony Overbay is running for 24 hours straight to help raise money for his child's school.

"The last day or two, I felt a little more anxious. I think it's because I realize how excited the kids are, and the community is so supportive," Overbay said.

Over the past three years, the money Overbay has raised has grown from $6,000 to an estimated $10,000 this year from his daylong run. It's all to make sure budget cuts don't affect Lincoln schools.

It started simply enough a couple of years ago.

"I said I'll run for a day, and maybe we can get some people excited. And then we talked about the 5K afterward and it grew from there," Overbay said.

But he's not just running to raise money. He's also out there to raise awareness.

"Running for 24 hours, that's almost become secondary to trying to motivate and inspire the kids to run and exercise," he said.

And the students are getting fit right alongside Tony, even if they aren't running the 125 miles he'll eventually finish with.

After he finishes the 24-hour run tomorrow, Lincoln High School has a 5K that also raises money for the schools.
