Neighbors Shocked By Turlock Couple's Torture Arrest

TURLOCK (CBS13) — A Turlock couple is accused of torturing a man inside their home.

Salvador Rendon and Martha Ferguson are alleged to have tortured a man in their home in April. Detectives won't say anything about what the man endured, but his injuries aren't considered life-threatening.

Court documents show the pair intended to cause the victim cruel or extreme pain.

Investigators say the couple and the victim were acquaintances and they only learned of the alleged torture after the victim called police. At some point, the couple let the victim go after holding him captive.

Neighbors say the family just moved in here about two months ago. Gary Tyler says he met Rendon after he stopped by looking for work.

"He came by and said he did trees and was going to charge us for tree service," Tyler said. "He was a nice guy, approached me as a new neighbor, 'Hey how you doing?'"

But now neighbors are on edge, concerned about who just moved in next door.

"It's scary. There's too many kids around here. It's too much," said neighbor Kimberly Stout.

The couple will be back in court next week where they will both face torture charges.
