Man's Body Recovered After Disappearing In Lake Natoma

FOLSOM (CBS13) - A nice day on the lake turned to tragedy after a man swimming with friends went under water and never came up.

The victim's family identified the man as Christopher Harris Jr.

Crews say the 23-year-old and some friends were all swimming together across a cove in Lake Natoma near Willow Creek State Park.

The friends reportedly swam about half way before they saw Harris go under and never resurface.

Every inch of the area was scoured by search crews, from the air and in the water. It took five hours before they found his body.

Crews say the water where Harris disappeared is about 15 feet deep and very cold -- only about 50 degrees.

"It fatigues the body. Even if you're a strong swimmer, in cold water it can affect you pretty bad," said Folsom Fire Department Division Chief Calvin Howard.

Harris was not wearing a life jacket.

It is unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor.
