Sheriff: Beale Airman Arrested For Sexual Relationship With 15-Year-Old Girl

YUBA CITY (CBS13) - A Beale airman is behind bars for allegedly having a sexual relationship with an underage teen he met through social media.

The Sutter County sheriff says 25-year-old Jeffary Cartwright met the teen through another juvenile friend on Facebook. Deputies believe their sexual relationship started back in February, and neighbors say they're not surprised.

"Wow, a 25-year-old with a 15-year-old," said neighbor Amandeep Singh. "That's uncalled for, especially when you're serving the country."

Deputies say they made the arrest after the teenager told her school counselor about the relationship. Facebook and cell phone records also show Cartwright and the teen met up several times since February.

Posts on his Facebook page indicate he may have been in a relationship, but it doesn't indicate with whom.

"The social media is starting to get everybody," said Singh. "You can't control anything anymore."

Investigators say Cartwright is an active duty airman at Beale Air Force Base.

"Everyday, everyday, every weekend, they have party," said one neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous.

Cartwright's neighbors say he always had a lot of girls over at the house.

"Too many girls coming in the driveway -- different cars," the neighbor said.

Deputies say both Cartwright and the teen have denied any dating relationship.

Nearby residents nearby are shocked that someone serving in the military could find himself behind bars facing felony charges.

"I have a 12-year-old sister. I mean, I definitely don't want him in my neighborhood then," said Singh.

Cartwright's bail is set at $100,000. He is expected to be in court on Tuesday.
