Low On Gas, Stalled By Trains, Dad Delivers Baby At Sam's Club

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — After a series of unexpected delays, a new dad had to deliver his son in a Sam's Club parking lot on Monday.

It started with Fritz and Josephine Rosales discovering their car was running on empty—bad news for a wife in labor.

"We had to stop at the gas station first," Fritz said.

But just trying to get there came to a screeching halt.

"We are on Grant Line, we are heading west. A train, it was probably going 20, 30 miles an hour and it was probably a 90-car train," he said.

And just when he thought they'd be on their way:

"I hear another train honking, and I'm like, 'Are you serious?'"

Josephine just kept on waiting as patiently as she could, but little Alexandre wasn't so patient. So Fritz made the decision to stop.

"First thing that came to my mind was Sam's Club," he said.

A nice, big well-lit parking lot to deliver a baby. Fritz called 911, told them where they were and started playing doctor. The baby slid out into his arms, but wasn't breathing at first.

"'Come on, you got to cry, you got to cry,' and he started crying, and he's OK," Fritz said.

Josephine says she's relieved everything turned out fine. This is the couple's fifth child, but it'll be the first story that comes to mind for the couple.
