Fire Crews Search For Cause Of Recycling Plant Fire

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Fire crews are investigating the cause of a south Sacramento recycling plant that caught fire overnight.

Firefighters began battling the fire in piles of debris at the Barry Avenue plant at 10 p.m. Wednesday and worked well into the night.

A fire official told CBS13 smoke was a major issue.

"Obviously the smoke is a problem. They can see the smoke stretches for miles. We've been in the smoke all evening. So it's basically, it's a little bit hazardous to the crews. They are exposed to the smoke. Other than that, we have switched out crews. We have a fresh crew worked now," said Sacramento Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Ortiz.

Another problem crews faced was the limited access to the parking lot.

Fortunately, no structures were damaged.

No injuries have been reported.

Editor's Note: The recycling plant was originally misidentified as an asphalt plant, but has been corrected in the story.
