Vigil Planned For 10-Year-Old Girl Shot To Death In North Highlands

NORTH HIGHLANDS (CBS13) - A vigil has been planned to honor the memory of the 10-year-old girl shot to death Saturday while watching television in her North Highlands home.

Village Elementary School staff will host a vigil Tuesday for Elvira Campos. Due to the family's religious beliefs, organizers are asking the public to bring balloons instead of candles.

Campos died after two men walked up to her home and fired several shots through the window and door.

"She was viewable (sic) through the window, and based on the proximity of the shooter, no doubt they knew they were shooting a child," said Sacramento County Sheriff's Detective Jeff Wallace.

Campos' mother and father were also shot, but are expected to survive.

Investigators say that her brother may have gang ties and was possibly the intended target.
