Remains Of 3 People Discovered In Burning Car Found In Butte County

MAGALIA (CBS13) - Overnight, the remains of three people were discovered in the trunk of a burning vehicle in the small town of Magalia.

Just after midnight, Butte County sheriff's deputies and fire personnel responded to reports of a burning vehicle at the Skyway near Hupp-Coutelenc Road. Upon arriving, responders located a green 2000 Acura fully engulfed in flames.

As they were extinguishing the flames, firefighters discovered the remains of three people inside the vehicle.

Investigators have learned the car was recently reported stolen to the Sacramento Police Department. The owner has been interviewed by cops and they don't believe she's involved with the incident.

Deputies say this was no accident. The bodies inside were so badly burned, investigators have been unable to determine their gender, much less their identity.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact Butte County Sheriff Det. Matt Calkins at 530-538-7671.
