Shooting or Struggle? Sacramento Police Ask Which Came First

SOUTH SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento Police say they were forced to fire on a suspect wanted in connection with a deadly shooting.

The suspect was spotted while walking with another man and a baby in a stroller on Elder Creek Road in South Sacramento.

Dozens of police officers lined the streets while investigating a shooting involving one of their own.

"The specifics of the timeline is why detectives are out here trying to figure out what transpired."

A confusing timeline, because police say there was a struggle as well as a shooting. But which happened first is unknown.

They say detectives went to a house on Somis Way looking for a man who may have been involved in a recent deadly shooting.

"When detectives were in the area, they actually saw that individual walking."

Not alone, as another man and a baby in a stroller were walking with him.

"There was some sort of physical altercation, as well as a shooting when they found that suspect was armed."

How they knew he had a gun is still unknown. And if the suspect ever fired is still being investigated. Police say the struggle happened when they tried to take the man into custody.

He was shot at some point and is in the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. Police say the baby is now with family and the other man is being questioned.
