Sacramento Man Allegedly Leads Police On Chase With Kids In Car
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Sacramento police arrested a man and his wife Saturday after the men allegedly led police on a chase with four kids in his vehicle.
Police say they tried to pull over 42-year-old Corey Houston during a DUI checkpoint in the area of Marysville Blvd. and Harris Ave. at around 8:11 p.m. Saturday, when Houston allegedly drove off.
Leading police through the neighborhood, Houston pulled into the back alley of the children's home. Police audio captures the moment when he takes off on foot and officers are surprised at who else jumps out of the car.
"Black male, white polo, kids running too," an officer says.
Witnesses say as many as seven police cars pulled up to the home and police surrounded the house with their guns drawn. Officers found four children in the vehicle, ranging in age from 10 months to 12 years old.
Houston eventually surrendered and was arrested on charges of evading police, child endangerment, driving on a suspended license, and prior charges.
Houston told CBS13 his side of the story from behind bars.
"I didn't endanger the kids," he said. "I drove them home. I didn't break any laws."
He says he never put the kids' lives at risk.
"Were they scared? No. They were smirking and I said, 'that's not funny,'" he said.
Houston's wife, 32-year-old Laqueen Jordan, was also arrested for conspiracy and delaying and obstructing officers.
Houston says he wanted to surrender earlier, but feared for his life.
"They were already guns drawn. I didn't want to be shot to death," he said.
Houston's bail has been set at $100,000. Jordan's is set at $50,000.
