Water Main Break In Natomas Affecting Residents At Home And On The Road
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Crews are working non-stop to repair a broken water main in Natomas that serves about 27,000 homes and businesses in the area. The project is said to be large and expensive.
Repair crews worked Monday and through the night to fix the pipe that was accidentally broken at 11:30 a.m. Monday by a Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District vehicle that was working on Arena Boulevard just east of Truxel Road.
One lane of Arena Boulevard was closed to make room for repair vehicles.
Officials say the accident may affect water pressure at nearby homes and businesses. Residents are being asked to lower their usage by not watering lawns or landscaping until repairs are complete.
"What we're trying to do ensure there's adequate pressure in the system. We're about to hit the highest demand time of the day. Morning is always the highest demand time as people get up and get in the showers. We've started the water back in the main that has the hole in it to ensure there's pressure in the system," said City of Sacramento spokesperson Jessica Hess.
The pipe is located in a drainage levee. Before workers can fix the main, they will place metal sheets along its banks to prevent erosion and ensure excess water does not affect repair work.
Officials predict repairs will be completed by Thursday morning.
