Old Sacramento Mugging Suspects Knock 74-Year-Old To Ground

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The suspects accused of mugging a woman in broad daylight in one of Sacramento's biggest tourist spots were caught on tape.

Old Sacramento shop owner Walter de la Garza knew something was wrong.

A 74-year-old woman had just been mugged in the middle of the afternoon, her purse grabbed. Two suspects would run up, one yanking the bag and pushing the frail woman to the ground.

He saw immediately that it was bad.

"She was bleeding really bad, they had to come and clean up the blood."

The victim suffered very serious injuries to her head when it slammed against the walkway.

"When she was laying down, she looked like she was in shock. She was bleeding from the back of the head."

Meanwhile, the two suspects would take off past surveillance cameras.

While police say the victim is still in bad shape, it comes at a time when people are already feeling uneasy.

Officers are investigating four separate armed robberies over the weekend in Midtown. In those cases, the suspects would show a gun.

Investigators will now be looking to see if there are any connection s to what happened in Old Town.

"I definitely hope they're caught, and they get what they're due."

For Walter, the recent rash of crimes shows it can happen any time.

"It was in the middle of the daytime, and there was a lot of people here, in the middle of the afternoon."
