Police: Stockton Woman Arrested After Daughter Shoots Self In Foot

STOCKTON (CBS13) - A Stockton woman has been arrested for child endangerment after her 8-year-old daughter was shot in the foot Thursday afternoon, say police.

Officers responded to the 6800 block of Allegheny Place to reports of a person shot at 12:30 p.m. However, the victim had already been transported to a nearby hospital.

Investigators say the 8-year-old girl had been shot in the foot with a shotgun after an accidental discharge as she was playing on the floor. Police originally reported the girl had shot herself, but now working to find out who fired the gun.

Police say the girl's mother -- 32-year-old Aurora Almaraz -- gave conflicting statements when questioned and refused to let officers into her home to process the scene and collect evidence.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives found a sawed off shotgun and a handgun in the home.

Almaraz was arrested on child endangerment and weapons charges.

Her daughter is suffering major injuries to the foot.

The investigation is ongoing and police have notified Child Protective Services.
