Wrong Backyard: Alleged Thief Captured By Retired Deputy, Beale Reservist

MANTECA (CBS13) — An alleged burglar is under arrest after a former deputy and his neighbor team up to take him down.

When Don Tisher noticed someone running through his backyard, he quickly jumped into action.

"I grabbed my shovel and said if he has a gun, he's going to lose," the retired San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputy said. "It was the wrong house, that's for sure."

As he used a special maneuver to bring the suspect to the ground, Tisher got help from the other side of the fence from his neighbor, Robert Duenas.

"I look up, and my neighbor was sticking a gun right through the fence there," Tisher said.

"I had a Sig Sauer .40, my personal handgun," Duenas said.

The retired deputy's next-door neighbor is a reservist at Beale Air Force Base who grabbed his gun after catching a glimpse of the suspect in his backyard, hopping a fence.

"Luckily I had the opportunity to come and help my neighbor out and make sure these guys know who's boss around here," Duenas said.

Held at gunpoint by a member of the military and pinned to the ground by a retired deputy, the suspected thief didn't put up a fight.

Officers already on the way quickly arrived and cuffed the man.

"It actually felt good being in cop mode again," Tisher said. "I've been retired a while, that part, it felt good to go, 'Alright, I still got these moves, I'm good.'"

A woman was also arrested. Neighbors say she was found hiding nearby.
