Darius Rucker Concert Too Popular For Placer County Venue, Moving To Cal Expo

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — A Darius Rucker concert planned for the Placer County Fairgrounds is moving to Cal Expo after it got too popular.

The Country In The Park concert is now becoming Country At Cal Expo.

Even though the fairgrounds sit on county property, the area around the fairgrounds is within city limits and right smack in the middle of a residential district. That had the city worried about a number of issues.

"Traffic-control problems, the public-safety problems, the parking problems."

The fairgrounds' response? They say they were ready for the crowd, and not ready for the disappointment of seeing it moved.

"Country in the Park was the biggest goal, and it was an honor to have them bring it here."

Some who live near the fairgrounds are humming a different tune.

"Not enough room, not enough parking," said resident Scott Whitaker. "It's overwhelming for everybody who lives around here."

In the meantime, the concert's sponsor—KNCI-Radio, owned by CBS Radio Sacramento—told us, "The issue was between the Placer County Fairgrounds and the city of Roseville. We decided to move the show to avoid any issue with the city of Roseville."

The CEO of the fairgrounds says they've never had to let Roseville city officials know about prior events.

But the city of Roseville says because of the expected size of this crowd, they needed to know the plans ahead of time.
