Annual Kaleo 5k Draws Crowds To Raise Money For K9 Officers
CARMICHAEL (CBS13) - Sacramento's four-legged finest were out Sunday, showing off their skill for a special event in Carmichael.
The Sacramento Sheriff's K-9 Association hosted the 5th Annual Kaleo's 5k Run.
It's named after a retired canine officer who developed cancer. The run raises money to pay health care costs for retired dogs that play a vital role in law enforcement.
"There has been so many times that (my canine) has found people that have had a gun on them or a gun nearby, or a knife. Who knows what that person would have done if it was me opening a closet door or me going behind a bush to look for him," said Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Shane Gregory.
Kaleo is now cancer free and enjoying retired life with a family.
