Ceres Marijuana Raids Net Nearly 1,000 Pot Plants And A Neglected Horse

CERES (CBS13) — Nine homes were raided, including one across the street from a high school, as part of a three-day operation that ended with almost 1,000 pot plants and a neglected horse seized.

Behind this Fiesta Way home sits a secret backyard of sorts, where plywood walls shielded a large marijuana grow.

Ceres Police SWAT members converged on the home this morning.

"They can't hide the smell," said Sgt. Jose Berber.

Today's raid was part of a three-day operation to clean up suspected neighborhood pot grows.

People on the quiet block heard the commotion.

"They were telling people to get out of the house," said Rene Rushon, who lives nearby, "It was really trippy, because nothing ever happens here."

In all, officers served search warrants at nine homes and removed almost 1,000 pot plants.

One suspected grow house was across the street from Ceres High School. That's where the officers found pot plants and a neglected horse.

Officers also arrested two men for gun charges. The number facing marijuana charges is unclear.

Officers say vigilant neighbors are the ones who tipped them off. Detectives then compiled a list before hitting the houses all at once.

At least one location had what appeared to be medical-marijuana papers posted. Detectives are working to see if the paperwork is valid.
