LATHROP (CBS13) — A couple is taking their construction complaints to anyone who will listen and has an internet connection, after they say their dream home turned into a nightmare.
The Lathrop couple bought their brand-new home in 2010, and they say the problems just keep coming.
The bottom half of the home is nearly empty, because the homeowner says he’s given up on that part of the house after moving furniture many times for repairs.
From the ceiling that isn’t quite level, to the wall-to-wall slab crack underneath the carpet, Brandon Sandiford says it’s been one problem after another with his family’s new Lathrop home.
“Floor guy comes out trying to tell us this is normal,” said Brandon. “We feel the work is shoddy when we can get them to perform warranty repairs.”
He isn’t keeping quiet about his frustration with the builder, KB Home. Decals plastered all over his call show off his site, http://www.kb-homesucks.com.
“When we’re driving down the road we get a lot of people taking pictures, we get a lot of thumbs ups.”
There’s also a YouTube channel filled with videos showing the problems he claims the builder hasn’t been able to fix.
In a statement, the company says, “KB Home responds to and addresses each of our homeowners’ warranty claims. Our goal remains the same, to provide quality customer service to all of our homeowners and to resolve their concerns as quickly as possible.”
The company says they’ve tried going above and beyond, working on the home several times and offering to have it inspected.
They say Brandon still isn’t satisfied, but won’t let them in the home to do more repairs.
“If it’s still not fixed, why would we let them back in?”
He’s not the first homeowner to complain. There are pages of online court records in San Joaquin County related to lawsuits filed against the company, alleging construction defects.
For now, Brandon says he’s stuck in a home his family doesn’t want that he feels he won’t be able to sell or get fixed properly. He says his goal for now is to get the word out about the hassle he’s gone through.
