Teen Accused Of Falsely Reporting Home Invasion Robbery To Cover Up Crime

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - An 18-year-old has been arrested for falsely reporting a home invasion after he attempted to rob someone, say police.

Officers responded to a robbery in the 2200 block of Del Paso Road just after 6 a.m.

Investigators say an armed suspect stole cash from a woman at gunpoint before being thwarted by the woman's boyfriend. A physical altercation occurred between the boyfriend and suspect, in which the man was able to take the gun from the robber.

The suspect -- later identified as 18-year-old Joshua Reed -- then fled the area.

Reed later called police from his home and falsely reported a home invasion in which a gun was stolen, say investigators.

Officers quickly discovered the two incidents were connected and Reed was arrested.

Reed was booked into Sacramento County Jail for felony robbery charges and a misdemeanor charge of falsely reporting a crime. His bail is set at $300,000.
