Stockton Package Thief Caught On Camera, But Cops Are No-Shows

STOCKTON (CBS13) — A thief was caught on camera stealing packages from a Stockton doorstep, but when someone on the block called for help, officers didn't show up.

"He tries the fence, puts his hand on it, pulls his pants up, jumps over," said Anne Smith with the neighborhood watch.

Over, and then on a stranger's porch. A few moments later, the shirtless young man reemerges with packages from someone's doorstep.

"There's one of our neighbors, comes over to find out who he is, and why he has these people's packages," Smith said.

Neighbors say he called police for help, but officers didn't show up.

"I'm angry, flat out angry that they didn't show up this is a crime in progress," Smith said.

A Stockton Police Department spokesman says officers are continuing to prioritize calls for help.

Members of recently formed neighborhood watch groups are acting as witnesses, a move they hope will lead to a suspect.

"We are still an extra set of eyes and we are watching what they are doing. Eventually they are going to get caught and arrested," Smith said.

Neighbors hope an arrest comes soon. Police say they are investigating, and hope additional witnesses come forward.
