Call Kurtis Investigates: Limo Company's Problems Caused 22 People To Miss Best Friend's Wedding

A group says they missed their friend's wedding, because the party bus driver caused them to arrive late.

When the limo company wouldn't give them a refund, they called Kurtis.

They say MGM Limousine gave them the ride from hell!

And the company refused a refund unless they took down their negative Yelp reviews.

"So our limo is overheating for the wedding that we're supposed to be at in like 5 minutes," said one of the wedding guests.

Decked out in their party dresses and suits, this iPhone video shows the group of 22 headed to a wedding, stranded outside the party bus on a highway.

"Smoke started to come out of the vents, we all just ran out," said Darya Moayer, Folsom resident.

"We kind of freaked out," said Heather D.

What was supposed to be an hour long ride to Darya and Heather's childhood friend's wedding in Isleton, turned into a 3 hour ordeal.

They say the AC didn't work inside the MGM Limo party bus and then started smoking.

The driver had to stop for gas and got lost.

"Hey sir, how far away are we?" asked another wedding guest.

"We kept checking our phones our phones in the back and we weren't getting any closer, we were actually getting farther away," said Heather.

Bride, Bianca Smith, got the call but says the group was too far away and just couldn't delay the wedding anymore.

"It was devastating. My heart was just so upset because this can't be repeated," said Bianca.

The limo company eventually got them there after the ceremony.

Darya and Heather complained to the BBB and on Yelp, writing "do not use this service, especially if it is for a special life event that is not worth missing."

They say MGM Limo said they'd refund half their $650 if they dropped the BBB complaint and removed their negative Yelp reviews.

"Take down the negative reviews and I'll give you 50% of your money back is not a refund, it's a bribe," said Eric Ratinoff, Consumer Attorney, KCR Legal.

Ratinoff says the limo company didn't deliver on their contract.

"I think they're owed all their money back, absolutely. There was a contract to deliver these people to a wedding," said Ratinoff.

We looked into MGM Limousine and found the state fined the company $2,000 in 2010, for a series of violations, including operating "vehicles with seating capacities outside the scope of its authority."

You see that party bus this group rented?  It's only licensed to carry 20 people.

We spoke with MGM Limousine manager, Andre, who insisted there were only 20 passengers even though the contract itself said 22.

He blamed the driver getting lost on GPS but admitted the tank wasn't full when the trip began.

He sent us these photos of beer bottles, cups and bags saying the group "trashed the bus."

But the group says they had no chance to clean it up because the company sent a different limo to pick them up after the wedding.

Andre stood by the offer to refund half the money if those Yelp reviews came down. The group said, "No!"

"It's not about getting the money back anymore, it's just making sure...  no one else... gets on the bus," said Darya and Heather.

The contract does however state that MGM Limo is not responsible for delays caused by mechanical breakdowns.

But in this case, there were a number of issues that caused the delay.
