Hayward Girl Shot, Injured Inside A Home Near Park

HAYWARD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in Northern California say a 10-year-old girl is suffering from non-life threatening injuries after she was shot inside a home where she was staying.

Hayward Police Sgt. Ken Forkus says the early-morning shooting occurred around 2 a.m. Thursday, but was not reported until some five hours later.

Police say dispatch had received a call around 2 a.m. of gunshots possibly coming from a park near the girl's home as officers checked the area and came up with nothing.

Police later learned about the girl's shooting when someone at the home called 911.

It's not immediately known how many shots were fired or where the girl was shot. She was taken to a hospital for her injuries.

Police are investigating whether the park shooting and the girl's injuries are related.
