Rain Expected As Summer Season Comes To End, Fall Begins

As the summer season officially winds down, expect to see much cooler weather heading into the weekend, and possible showers.

Winds are expected to stay light and the skies clear as highs hover above normal Thursday -- hitting around 90 degrees before the day is through.

WATCH: 7-Day Forecast

On Friday, a very weak area of low pressure will make for a partly cloudy day and drop temperatures about five degrees.

The region will stay dry through late Friday night, but could be seeing some late showers. Only a light amount of rainfall is expected in the valley with just a few hundredths of an inch. The foothills and Sierra can expect about a quarter of an inch of rain, while the Sierra could also see some snowfall above 7,500 feet.

Temperatures will continue to cool into the weekend, with Saturday highs expected in the mid-70s. There is also a chance for light showers; however, heading into Sunday, the skies should clear up.

Sunday also ushers in the new season. Expect a clear and sunny first day of fall with a high of 80 to end your weekend.
