Fire Damages High-Rise Residential Building In Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles firefighters have extinguished a blaze on the 11th floor of a residential high-rise on the city's west side.

City fire officials say the blaze was reported at 11:43 a.m. Friday in one unit of the 25-story building on Wilshire Boulevard.

Heavy smoke and flames poured from the building as more than 180 firefighters responded.

Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey says the blaze was put out in 71 minutes.

Two residents have been taken to hospitals due to smoke exposure. Humphrey says their conditions are not believed to be life-threatening.

Humphrey says some residents on upper floors did not evacuate.

The address is at Barrington Plaza, a luxury residential complex with more than 470 units.
