Colfax Woman Fears Worst For Fiance Who Went Missing Over Weekend

COLFAX (CBS13) — A Colfax woman fears her fiance is stranded and in desperate need of help after he went missing over the weekend.

Eric Garcia's family hasn't heard from him since Saturday morning, and with half a foot of snow fallen and temperatures dipping into the teens, they're left to wonder if he's still alive.

It's been nonstop for Tiffany Matthews and family as she desperately tries to find her fiance and father of two, who is possibly fighting for his life in harsh weather.

"I'm concerned he's in pain, he's hungry, he's cold," she said. "He's not conscious and can't reach out to anybody."

He left Matthews' mom's house on Saturday to get his wallet in Colfax in a tan Plymouth Breeze. Roads to the Sierra were a mess after a winter storm blew through and temperatures were well below freezing.

Matthews says Garcia was certain he dropped his wallet outside their Colfax apartment the night before, and he needed it for the Sunday's 49ers game—something he wouldn't miss for the world.

"He's a die-hard Niners fan, and he has been looking forward to this game for months," she said.

That game came and went, and Garcia missed it. His phone's been dead, too.

Matthews thinks he took backroads, concerned about Interstate 80 closing, and slid off of an icy road.

While Garcia keeps warm clothes in his car, it's been four days since he left.

"I know he's got that in the car, but who's to say he could get to it in the car," she said.

The family continued the search that started on Sunday.
